Profile

I joined the Academic Unit of Health Economics as a Senior Research Fellow in June 2023. Prior to this, I worked at the Centre for Guidelines within the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). I have also previously worked at RAND Europe and the Nuffield Department of Population Health at University of Oxford. 

 

Research interests

My research interests include:

  • Use of econometric techniques to identify causal inference from observational data
  • Economic evaluations alongside clinical trials and decision-analytic modelling
  • Early economic evaluation modelling on diagnostic tests
  • Economic determinants of health outcomes and health behaviour

My recent research projects: 

  • ALABAMA: Penicillin allergy status and its effect on antimicrobial prescribing, patient outcomes, and antimicrobial resistance (NIHR PGfAR)
  • CHART: Assessing the health economic impact of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) to sustain independence for older people living with heart failure and frailty (NIHR HTA)
  • Early economic evaluation of diagnostic tests for Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) (Leeds BRC)

Student education

I teach international health policy for an undergraduate module in health economics at Leeds University Business School (LUBS), and I am an MSc and PhD supervisor.  

My current MSc and PhD students are: 

  • Xiaoxiang Dai (Obesity and labour market outcomes using CFPS/China Family Panel Studies data)

  • Abeer Almalki (Glucocorticoid toxicity and multimorbidity in people with Immune Mediated Inflammatory Diseases)

  • Rhys Williams (A systematic review on the methods for economic evaluations of behavioural weight management interventions)
